Ashby (2015): A decent drama worth seeing

What is it about?

Ed Wallis is an average high schooler who’s just trying to survive high school. His neighbour, Ashby, is a retired CIA killer who is terminally ill and has no one to live for. They form an unusual friendship and Ed realizes that Ashby is not completely retired. He still has a couple of targets he would like to kill while he still can. Will he succeed?

Who should watch it?

  • Should I watch it with my kid(s)?

    Not really. It contains s a certain amount of violence and some strong sexual phrases.

  • Is it good to watch on a date?


  • For what audience is it intended?

    For anyone who likes a nice drama about a young boy just starting with his life and his elderly neighbor who is about to die but wants some other people to die first.

What can I expect from this movie?

  • Will I fall off the couch laughing and have sore abs the next day due to laughing too hard?

    This movie does have some funny moments, mostly with Sarah Silverman in it.

  • Is my brain going to implode trying to figure out the movie?


  • Will I learn anything from this movie?

    Yes. CIA killers have strange moral codes. Although, the fact that they have any moral codes at all is even stranger.

  • Is it based on something?

Judgment time!

This movie got ripped to shreds at the box office. I mean, its income is just sad… Nevertheless, “Ashby” is a fine drama with some action and humor mixed into it. It’s not something you absolutely must see, but it’s not a bad experience. At least it wasn’t for me.

Mickey Rourke had some really unmemorable, atrocious roles lately, I am excited when he acts in a decent movie like this. I give it 6/10.
