The Conjuring (2013): That was scary!

What is it about?

Ed and Lorraine (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are a married couple who investigates supernatural occurrences and are quite famous for it. When they get a call from a bewildered family that’s being molested by a ghost, they bravely accept the job and begin the battle against forces that are not only scary, but also deadly.

Who should watch it?

  • Should I watch it with my kid(s)?

No. This is one of the scariest horrors I’ve seen in a while. You would have to be a damn fool to show it to your kids. Seriously, don’t show it to them. They will never sleep again. Hell, you’ll probably never sleep again. That’s how scary this movie is.

  • Is it good to watch on a date?

Only if you are both fans of scary horror movies. If one of you gets traumatized, then it’s not a good date, is it?

  • For what audience is it intended?

For anyone who likes a good horror movie and can handle all the scary stuff that’s in it.

What can I expect from this movie?

  • Will I fall off the couch laughing and have sore abs the next day due to laughing too hard?

No, it’s way too scary and dark to contain any humor.

  • Will I get scared?

You better believe it. Unless you’re a veteran that watched thousands of horror movies and nothing can scare you, this movie will do a fine job of scaring the crap out of you. Especially if you believe in all that stuff.

  • Is my brain going to implode trying to figure out the movie?

    No.

  • Will I learn anything from this movie?

Yes. You should thoroughly research a property you are considering to buy. I’m not just talking about plumbing and termites. You should definitely check for supernatural occurrences, because if you happen to find some, this will considerably decrease the value of the property and you could get it for a really cheap price. You might get bothered by murdering ghosts, but at least you’ll save some money.

  • Is it based on something?

It is based on true events that took place in the 70’s. By that, I mean it’s based on the story from people that supposedly lived in a haunted house, which I consider a nonsense.

  • Is this movie a must-see?

Absolutely. “The Conjuring” is one of the best horrors in the last 10-15 years.

Similar movies like “The Conjuring”?

Check the sequel, “The Conjuring 2”. You can also try with the “Insidious” trilogy, or The Babadook. For older similar movies, check The Shining or “The Exorcist”.

Judgment time!

I don’t believe in any of that ghost crap, and yet, “The Conjuring” was really scary for me, which should be strong enough of a recommendation. To me, it’s one of the most complete modern horror movies I have ever seen.

Intense atmosphere, fantastic amount of suspense that just keeps building until it explodes in your face and you scream like a little girl, ominous music… This movie has it all.

If you consider yourself a fan of horror movies, you should watch “The Conjuring”. I give it 10/10.
