Keanu (2016): Not bad for a first try

What is it about?

Rell (What kind of a name is that?) and Clarence are two cousins who are not exactly the coolest dogs in the neighborhood. Rell is a depressive shut-in, while Clarence is as dorky as it’s humanly possible. He does know how to do a back flip, though.

A stray cat enters into Rell’s life, making his life beautiful and worth living again. But one week later, someone breaks into his home and steals the cat! For Rell, that’s unacceptable, so he and Clarence embark on the most dangerous mission of their lives, trying to find Keanu the cat.

Who should watch it?

  • Should I watch it with my kid(s)?

No. The movie is full of bad language, sexual references, and so on.

  • Is it good to watch on a date?

Yeah, it could be a fun movie to watch on a date. It’s entertaining enough.

  • For what age and gender is it intended?

For anyone who likes Key & Peele’s type of humor.

What can I expect from this movie?

  • Will I fall off the couch laughing and have sore abs the next day due to laughing too hard?

It’s not the funniest movie ever, but it does have some good moments. Fans of Key & Peele will especially appreciate it.

  • Is my brain going to implode trying to figure out the movie?

    No.

  • Will I learn anything from this movie?

Yes. If you’re a gangster, and you’re named after a cheese, that means you’re tough as fuck because only someone that’s tough as fuck can have a name “Cheddar” and still be a gangster.

  • Is it based on something?

    No.

Similar movies like “Keanu”?

You can try with “Let’s be Cops”.

Judgment time!

For what I know, Key & Peele are rather popular comedians who have their own show. I managed to catch their show several times on TV so I knew what kind of humor to expect in “Keanu”. This is their first movie and even though it’s not bad, there’s certainly lots of room for an improvement. It probably won’t become a classic, or something that we will remember 10 years from now, but it’s still a funny movie with some funny reactions of Key & Peele.

I give it 6/10.
