Who should watch it?
Should I watch it with my kid(s)?
No, not really. The movie is just too “heavy” and gruesome to be suitable for kids, even if the do find it interesting, which is a long shot.
Is it good to watch on a date?
You can watch it, but it’s not exactly a date movie. Is rather dark and unsettling.
For what age and gender is it intended?
For adults and anyone who likes a good, dark thriller.
What can I expect from this movie?
Will I fall off the couch laughing and have sore abs the next day due to laughing too hard?
Even though the movie is grim, it does offer a couple of great lines that will make you chuckle.
Is my brain going to implode trying to figure out the movie?
The movie is told in two timelines. One happens in the present, and one happens 13 years in the past when the murder took place. They often change without any warning and the only thing that helps you determine what’s the current timeline is the younger/older look of the main characters.
So you can’t exactly cook dinner or surf the Internet because you can easily get confused and won’t know what the fuck is going on.
Will I learn anything from this movie?
Yes. Don’t force your children to go to an office party with you.
Is it based on something?
It’s a remake of an Argentinian movie “El secreto de sus ojos”.
Is this movie a must-see?
It’s a very good thriller, but not something that’s a must-see.
Similar movies like “Secret in Their Eyes”?
“Prisoners”, “L.A. Confidential”, “Memoirs of a Murder”.
This movie got a lot of hate from people just because it’s a remake. So what if it’s a remake? For me, it was a very good thriller with an unexpected ending. Any thriller that surprises me with its ending is a good thriller in my book.
Sure, some things could have been better and Julia Roberts could have had more make-up. But such is life. No such thing as a perfect movie. “Secret in Their Eyes” is a dark, gruesome movie with a really good performance of the main characters.
I would give it a 9/10, but since it’s a remake, I’ll give it 8/10.
